Background

Dutch web developer from a village in the south of the Netherlands, based in Amsterdam; self-taught from about 15, left his studies, freelanced and worked part-time before going full-time on Simple Analytics (2020 interview). Posted as @adriaanvrossum until at least 2023; that handle is now a parked placeholder account.

Why this product

Installing Google Analytics for freelance clients, he disliked sending their visitors' data to an ad company, so in Sep 2018 he built a script that counts pageviews without tracking people.

Where it's going

As of Oct 2026 Simple Analytics is repositioned for enterprise as a cookieless count running next to GA4 (the 'consent analytics gap' pitch); in Sep 2026 he posted that he is building a private iOS location-timeline app called Places.

Self-funded, no VC; never sold. The pair also co-run UniHosted, and Iron runs Signalbase and Rayley.
